I was gratified to see that the Aeromodeller name will live on!!!
I am looking forward to the first publication.
My main field of interest is control line, and as an active member of our local club we have maybe 100 + members in total encompassing radio control sport, aerobatics, free flight, gliders and of course control line stunt.
I have attached some past pictures for you to look at – I think that the heart of any hobby is the way you guide it’s future and you can see that we have many kids very keen on control line – they start as young as 7 – they pay for the course and the parents have to find the extra for the engine and hardware – balsa and basic materials are included. Many of these kids stay on and progress.
This year we have about 20 youngsters for the control line side alone.
The person who heads this all up is a full time local authority employee , Ronen Eizenberg, who is about as dedicated as it is possible to get. His drive earned the club the much yearned after flying site and it took several years to get there.
The view below is from the top of the hillock by the site and was taken while the site was still being constructed. It has grown and improved since then.
The runway is to the right and is just over 100 meters – the grass was from imported seed and is the very short British type like a carpet. The picture was from a little while back – now most of the area is green. Bear in mind that water is a scarce resource here so again we must give thanks to the local authority!.
During the summer we have late flying, much as we did in the old days at Finchley and district club with Charley Crawley et al, and here you can see some of the youngsters:
These kids are all flying modified models based on the old Banshee or Nobler (almost!!) and they are very team spirited and enthusiastic.
Close of play:
A bit dark but gives the idea. There are 14 models – everyone had 2 flights – now that’s hard work and we do it almost in a military way to make sure that everyone has a turn.
The main runway becomes the line park. The club standardizes on the OS 46 SLA for control line– and this seems to give guaranteed results, being very strong and almost impossible to damage.
We soon have the kids flying their maiden flights and if they are slow builders the club has some club models that they learn on till they are ready.
Every kid following the tradition of the air force here, is liberally doused with water following his first flight and most times the parents also bring light refreshments at the end of the session.
I am afraid I don’t have any pictures to hand of the clubhouse in town which actually has just been refurbished. There the models are built and sometimes stored.
Also the kids make their own handle too.
Below a picture of myself and my longtime best friend Eliezer Rosenberg
I am on the left – the model is a profile version of Compostella’s Falco with 3 line control just for fun. Eli’s model is own design and his own motor as well. He has been Israel F2B champ many times over and is well known at the Europe and world championship circles.
Below is the winners section of the Israel F2B championships – actually 2009 I think: Ronen won with a Score and ST60.
We here continue the control line traditions very strongly.
We do also have a very strong radio section and some high level competitors. This is a link to a youtube clip regarding the club – the F3A chap you see is Shlomi Chester and of course they had to make the film on a radio session in the club house but it gives a great idea of the activity level.
You can also see the field but it has improved much since then. Also note that this was filmed in the middle of winter!
This one is me doing some touch and go’s
Anyway for now, very best of luck with the Aero Modeler and I shall look forward to the first edition.
Yours sincerely,
Martin Jackson
