We were sorry to hear that Ron Firth passed away on 20 Dec 2013, after a courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 85 years of age.
Ron was an active aeromodeller for much of his life, and was heavily involved in ‘Flying Model Designer and Constructor’ magazine in the 1990s. In November 1970 he was appointed a Fellow of the Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers, and this was followed by time as the Chairman of the BMFA. In later life Ron was an avid plastic model constructor, graduating from Airfix to scratch-build, vacu-formed models.
Ron is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Vicky and son Michael.
There will be a funeral service at the Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium, Sheffield, at 1130hrs Thursday 16 January 2014. This will be followed by a family-only reception.
The family have asked for no flowers; donations to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund c/o John Heath and Sons, 2- 16 Earsham Street, Sheffield S4 7LS, would be welcomed.
